Welcome to Gary’s $$$ and Sense Blog, improving financial literacy one blogpost at a time.
Spring Training is here and hope springs eternal. As an ardent Blue Jay Fan and knowing there are many like me I have created a countdown clock to their home opener. Check it out here.
Why did I create this blog
In my 36 years of helping Canadians with their financial security I realized that all people needed a basic level of education and understanding about a proposed recommendation before they felt comfortable in doing something. So all my career I have been doing just that. My clients felt better about what they were doing and over time this led to many referrals to new clients too.
Recently I decided to focus on common sense ideas and tips and write them down so others could benefit from them just as my clients have.
I have written this blog for the average Canadian, the person who isn’t affluent but needs advice too. This sadly is an overlooked segment of the Canadian marketplace as advisors tend to focus on the affluent.
I have often said that an educated customer will in the long-run be more financially successful. This blog is my contribution to improving your financial literacy because it is good for you and good business for me.
Also, I have long subscribed to the notion that simpler is better when creating recommendations or plans for people to follow. Often I think people impart complex ideas to clients as a way of defining their importance in the client’s eyes.
In my opinion one of two things will happen, no action is taken to solve the problem because the client doesn’t fully grasp the concept or two, they begin the journey but give up when they realize how hard it is to follow the plan. Either way the client is not better off.
